THUMB WARS: THE PHANTOM CUTICLE - REVIEW

Image
"If there were thumbs in space and they got mad at each other there would be..." Thumb Wars was Steve Oedekerk's first attempt at making a short film spoof entirely out of thumbs and it was just as crazy and brilliant as you would expect. The 29 minute-long parody not only introduced a unique and bizarre thumb-based technique to tell its story (actors faces superimposed over clothed thumbs with wigs) but it spawned several other such spoofs. Thumb Wars retells Episode IV: A New Hope with Oedekerk's very own brand of silliness peppered throughout. Every character is given a goofy (or goofier, I should say) name and gets the full thumb treatment, whatever that means. Obi-Wan Kenobi is now Oobedoob Scoobi-Doobi Benubi and he quickly tries to convince Luke (aka Loke Groundrunner) to touch tongues with him, meanwhile Leia literally has buns on her head, hence the name Princess Bunhead, Yoda (aka Master Puppet) freely admits to being a puppet and Darth "Blac

WE, THE MINDTHINKERS - NEW BLOG

Image
Here's a plug for a new blog I'm working on called We, The MindThinkers   which will see me writing random, silly sci-fi stories under various, increasingly dumb-sounding pen names. I will upload short stories one chapter at a time, 2 to 3 times a week so if you're in any way interested, don't hesitate to check it out! ;) The first short story is called The Red Moons Of NeOrion by Norman L. Brisbane, the first chapter is now up. It involves moons and bubbles.

BAT THUMB - REVIEW

Image
NOTE: This review was written using only my thumbs, therefore typos might oxccur. If you are unfamiliar with the great man that is Mr Steve Oedekerk then this is something which must be rectified promptly. The man behind the likes of High Strung , Kung Pow and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls , when Mr Oedekerk isn't making movies he's making Thumb movies. And they are beautiful. You can check some out on Youtube or simply go to THE wackiest site around  for plenty of Thumb-tastic goodness. Highlights include Frankenthumb , The GodThumb , ThumbTanic and, of course... Bat Thumb. Focusing primarily on spoofing the first Tim Burton movie as well as the 60's TV series, Bat Thumb is very, VERY silly but if you expected something else then I'm not sure what part of "Bat Thumb" you didn't understand. The Thumb movies always begin with an absurd intro from Oedekerk himself and this one is no exception: The film is then introduced by a can of beets

FRANKENWEENIE - NEW PICS

Here are some new stills from Tim Burton's upcoming Frankenweenie . Doctor and creation. Comically chunky nosy neighbour. Sparky "in stitches". Some Igor-looking fellow that wasn't in the original short. Bride of... Poodlestein? Big lol Looks visually pretty great and it looks like Mr Burton might just have found his old wit. Can't wait.

FRANKENWEENIE - NEW IMAGE

Following on from a preview I made some time ago in regards to Tim Burton's latest stop-motion venture Frankenweenie , here's a new picture from the film just released. Not sure how Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea will come into play but we shall see... Lookin' good.

FRANKENWEENIE - PREVIEW

Image
As many of you know, Mr Tim Burton is currently hard at work on an animated adaptation of his very own short Frankenweenie . It sounds fab with Martin Short playing no less than 5 characters, former Burtoneers Winona Ryder, Martin Landau and Catherine O'Hara all back in the game and the whole thing resembling Burton's animated short  Vincent . Here are some early stills: Looks pretty great indeed: Sparky's adorable. It's all in black and white. It's Frankenstein with a dog. I'm sold.
