TO ROME WITH LOVE - REVIEW

Image
Originally titled “ The Bop Decameron” , To Rome With Love was this year’s Woody Allen and boasted yet another all-star cast in yet another European setting. But where Midnight In Paris really pushed the whole romantic, nostalgia vibe, this one takes a different route altogether. For one thing, this is closer to the likes of You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger or Everyone Says I Love You where you follow not one but several characters in their own little continuing vignettes. Woody Allen and the ever reliable Judy Davis play a married couple who go to Rome to meet their daughter’s boyfriend’s parents only to find that the father sings amazingly well in the shower, which Allen’s character promptly plots to exploit. A young architect, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is involved in a love triangle between his girlfriend Sally (Greta Gerwig) and one her best friends (played by Ellen Page) althewhile being mentored by one of his favorite architects (Alec Baldwin), or his gh

30 MINUTES OR LESS - REVIEW

Another Jesse Eisenberg film from the director of Zombieland ?! Yes please! With Danny McBride thrown in? Oh you are too kind. 30 Minutes Or Less is one of those very decent comedies no-one sees when it comes out for some reason. I'm reminded of The Cable Guy or Observe And Report . 30 Minutes isn't quite as good or as dark as either but its clever premise alone makes it well worth seeing. Danny McBride plays the laziest of criminals in that all he needs to do is get rid of his father in order to get some kind of inheritance or whatever so he can be rich and get together with a lapdancer AND YET he chooses instead to hire a very expensive professional killer to do the job for him. But in order to do that, he needs rob a bank... but again he delegates that to Jesse Eisenberg's pizza boy by kidnapping him and strapping a bomb to his chest which he threatens to activate if he doesn't get the money in time. Like I said: laziest criminal EVER. Pretty lol I mus

TO ROME WITH LOVE - TRAILER

Yes, Woody Allen's back already with To Rome With Love and this time he's got one crazy-ass cast: Roberto Benigni, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg, Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz... Together... at last? Oh and Woody Allen himself also participates. Looks fun :) The Allen-starring ones are always worth checking out, lets hope this one is no exception.

THE SOCIAL NETWORK - REVIEW

Image
David Fincher directs this Dead Poets Society for the internet age with gusto and brings the controversial creation of the popular social networking site Facebook to life. Unfortunately, there's really not much to tell. Zuckerberg comes up with it (kinda), there are a few lawsuits...that's pretty much it. And there's nothing more boring than people sitting at their computer and going to meetings. That said, Fincher makes the story flow perfectly and there's never a dull moment, which is a huge achievement in itself. Unfortunately, at times the film attempts to make Harvard, rowing and typing on one's laptop way cooler and snappier than it really should be. He's Mark Zuckerberg not Beethoven! And no amount of babes, coke or...HTML can change that. In fact, what is most interesting about this whole story isn't so much the creation of the website or the lawsuits that followed but rather the deterioration of Zuckerberg's relationship with his best frie
