HORRIBLE BOSSES 2 - REVIEW

Image
If there was one comedy I was not expecting to ever get a sequel, it was  Horrible Bosses . Armed with a fun, clever concept and a strong cast, the film still somehow managed to be very uneven and instantly forgettable. So now we have Horrible Bosses 2 and our moronic trio are back with yet another unlikely plan involving, albeit rather indirectly, some horrible bosses. Of course, the gang are soon tricked into being ruined and selling their product for cheap to Waltz and they are soon plotting their revenge. Murder isn't so much on their mind this time as they turn their intention towards kidnapping. Or "kidnaping", rather. What follows is a series of nifty twists and turns as Pine gets involved in thei

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 - REVIEW

Following all the previews showing off the new Spidey flick's odd-looking villains and busy visuals, this second instalment in Marc Webb's rebooted franchise looked like it might have just skipped right over the superior sequel factor, instead going straight to an unintentionally hilarious   Spider-Man 3 -style of cacophony. After all, three villains would mean three origin stories and add that to the continuation of the first film's subplot following Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) estranged parents, the "complicated" Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) romance and the obligatory gallons of action which comes with every bigger superhero sequel and you've got yourself one exhausting-sounding follow-up.  The film opens with a surprisingly exciting opening sequence involving Parker's parents and, like with Captain America: The Winter Soldier , it feels more like we're in Jason Bourne thriller territory than purely comic book shenanigans. It's goo

WHITE HOUSE DOWN - REVIEW

Image
You'd think that, by now, Roland Emmerich's gimmicky blockbuster formula would have imploded in on itself and culminated in an undeniable stinker. (post Godzilla , that is) And yet miraculously,  White House Down , while just as dumb and ridiculous as its predecessors, still worked as a popcorn movie. Taking that one iconic scene from Independence Day and inexplicably spinning it off into its very own movie, Emmerich delivers yet another fun, mindless mess complete with vomit-inducing patriotism, big explosions and a bag-full of one dimensional characters and obvious stereotypes. Working with what seems like a much lower budget than 2012 , White House Down focuses its attention on a siege taking place in the White House without going around the world and showing monuments and the French blow-up randomly, as those types of films usually do. Our lead is Channing Tatum, a cop who can talk to squirrels and who aspires to work for the President (Jamie Foxx) as part of the U.
