TRUE BLOOD: SEASON 1 - REVIEW

Image
It's crazy to think that True Blood came out the same year as Twilight . It's just nuts. I mean, Twilight is the bad Disney movie take on vampire lore! True Blood is just... Good. The show sees that modernized Twilightness and gives it a very welcome, and very clever, tongue-in-cheek anything-goes rock-n-roll attitude combined with an effortless Near Dark cool you certainly haven't seen in a while when it comes to vamp flicks/series. The first season takes a familiar route with random murders being committed by a mysterious killer, typical TV plot ( Twin Peaks , anyone?), the whole thing being a whodunit that just happens to also be about vampires and a whole hidden world humans have no idea about. The show is set in a time where humans and vampires have learned to live side by side with vampires settling on a blood substitute, a drink conveniently called "Tru Blood", but obviously unspoken tensions between both still exist. As the season goes on, wh

Well, here's one for the ladies: Oh, who am I kidding? This is something we can all enjoy! Bring on The Wolverine !

MAN OF STEEL - TEASER TRAILER

Well, it's the weekend and although many more Batman things are in store for the rest of Bat Month, including my thoughts on The Dark Knight Rises , here's more DC goodness in the shape of the first teaser trailer for Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel starring Henry Cavill. Wow, a "gritty" Superman movie?! It's so crazy it just might work...

DREDD - TRAILER

Image
So Dredd finally gets a trailer... Hm, not sure about this one you guys. It's got B movie written all over it. Karl Urban is about as intimidating as Rob Schneider in Judge Dredd ... Lets hope the movie proves me wrong.

SKYFALL - TRAILER

Image
Finally, here is the first teaser trailer for 007's next: Skyfall . Doesn't give much away but man are they going for "epicness" this time around. Looks fab. Bring it on.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - FIRST CATWOMAN PIC

Image
Well, it looks like we're finally able to take a look at Anne Hathaway's take on Catwoman for Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises . Here's the pic: Um, ok... Not sure I get it, you guys. The carnival mask, the bluetooth headsets, the Batpod... This is clearly BATGIRL.  She looks like a cat like I look like Michelle Pfeiffer (I don't).  Lets wait till we get a decent image/poster before judging Rises but... *crosses fingers*

SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL - FIRST PIC

Image
With casting news still coming up, the latest of which was Laurence Fishburne playing Perry White, I was under the impression that the project was still coming together very slowly and nothing had been settled on. But, of course, with only Green Lantern and an evasive Dark Knight Rises to face the mightily productive Avengers , I guess something had to give. So here we finally have a first look at Henry Cavill in that iconic costume: First impressions? Is Superman robbing a bank?  I'm kidding, he looks...like Superman. Which is a pretty good sign I would say. With the film coming out in 2013 (in a million years), it looks like we can expect a trailer probably around about the Avengers release...conveniently. Lets hope director Zack " Watchmen " Snyder doesn't fall into the Bryan Singer trap of imitating the old Superman movies and bring something fresh and new to the table.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS - REVIEW

Image
The rise and fall of the X-Men films sure went quick and fast. Not that the first two were all that perfect but when the messy third came along that was something of a blow. The lacklustre Wolverine Origins prequel followed and pretty much confirmed that the X magic was well and truly...ex magic, So how do you follow a lifeless X-Men prequel? With another of course! The weird thing is that looking at the reviews the film received so far, people liked it! They lapped it up! And here I was facepalming my way through yet another damp squib X-Men film which not only managed to miss the point entirely but delivered what has to be the least interesting X film so far. Lets forget for one second the overall quality of the film and its hit-and-miss links to the other films and the comics: is this honestly the X-Men film we want to see? Who was this made for? Who demanded yet another prequel starring mostly uninteresting mutants doing mostly uninteresting things in the 60's? Will we
