DAYBREAKERS (2009)

It's hard to believe Ethan Hawke was ever nominated for an Oscar based on this performance! And although Daybreakers can get pretty silly, it does find interesting loopholes within the vampire genre and the (more or less) futuristic setting works relatively well. Willem Dafoe is hardly convincing in the tough cookie role but does his best with some Clint Eastwood-esque lines worthy of Dirty Harry. Sam Neill however is perfectly evil and gets it right without being too hammy. Daybreakers looks good and entertains, there's definitely a good film in there somewhere, unfortunately the finished product is a bit of a mess. Still, it's better than Twilight...
